    Mr Silver and Mr Rosenbaum came up with the idea on a road trip in California two years ago.

    seems also apt.

      Interesting: these MIT students seem to have "invented" something that was done a few weeks ago by somebody else: Bananaphone: A Touch Capacitance Synth (and which featured in Monday Links the other week).

      EDIT: on closer inspection, this turns out to be another example of the lamentable state of technology reporting these days: the invention is actually the kit that emulates a USB keyboard, and they've just used the banana idea as an example of what can be done with it.
