    Cancelling Broadband..

    Really random question..

Any idea how I go about cancelling broadband - we moved in to our house in Jan and there were 2 working phone lines - despite being told there was only one.

The main line is up and running and in my name.

The 2nd line - the old owner told me this was dead 3 years ago, but it is not.
Trying to get it cancelled and deactivated is a nightmare as it is not in my name.
I have found that the line is paid for by the MOD, but tracking down somebody to take responsibility in the MOD is not simple..

The previous owner does not want to take ownership of the issue as he should have told the MOD 3 years ago that he no longer needed the line (and then again when we moved in and told him the line was active).

So how the hell do I get it cancelled!

Are you paying for the 2nd line?

Keep the evidence that you've done all you can to get it cancelled.

Then use it as a web hosting reseller...

      That might get their attention

(I once heard a story of a French couple back in dialup days. One worked for the electricity company and the other worked for a telco, and both enjoyed heavy discounts. They set up as their own ISP, racks of modems, the lot.)

As long as the MOD are picking up the tab for it, no doubt BT is happy to carry on charging them.

I had a similar problem cancelling the phone when I gave up my house in the UK. I tried doing it by phone but they wanted my account number and I'd just had a clearout of my old bills and didn't know it. I suppose that was a decent security check so that folks can't simply cancel someone else's phone out of spite, but it left me facing the cost of a trip back to the UK to retrieve said account number and i wasn't going to do that.

I wrote them a registered letter instead.

If someone else is paying and you arent getting calls asking for a 'Mr Bond, Mr James Bond?' why bother?
I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!
