Essential if you need to work in the City because you need to understand how to bring global markets to their knees. Personal greed, or the ability to grow it, is also paramount.

I've been making a very nice living writing financial software for years. Don't understand any of it.

              I would reply - but I can't be arsed.

Seriously - its all down to luck. Remember there is nothing about the work involved in finance. The difficulty is the commuting and putting up with the aggressive morons who work there.

I have worked in finance for a couple of years.

Finance knowledge always appears on job specs (eg must understand FXO etc) and they will not normally interview you without it but once you are in you actually hardly ever need to know it.
