    Contractor envy

I am going to suggest that about 10 percent of permies have issues with working with contractors, depending on the gig, the client and the role it varies but 10 percent would be a software industry standard amount I would say.

Narky little comments mostly, envy of the day rate.

    Concur?

Do you tell them your day rate?

I never used to when I was a contractor, it's none of their business.

        They don't know my rate.

Most don't know I'm a contractor just the specialist fixing a large number of problems.

It varies. Usually somebody in accounts or HR or wherever 'lets slip' what the ClientCo is paying an agency or direct and that translates to what the contractor is being paid. Happened in more than one gig.

Staff know the standard rate for what I do for clientCo, it is not a secret really.

Last clientco half the team were contractors. It got mentioned once.

Present clientco don't use contractors. I'm the secOnd one they've ever hired and boy don't they keep mentioning it. Even the CEO commented on it!

That depends highly on whether you take your 911 Turbo to the clients office.

Or get your R8 delivered at work.

Mind you, I was a permy when that arrived.

                    good point, well made.
keep a low profile and the % of permie envy drops from 10 to 9 %

if they find out your rate, it goes back up to 50%. If you get the coffees in and know some good jokes it goes back down to 25%
