Boy, did I f*** up in a big way

I can't believe what a total fck up I made.

The missus was hoovering up last night, and I took the plug out so that I connect my back-up server for work.
Now I find that we lost ten minutes of hoovering and the knock on meant that all our further transactions were put back and that four cats have been left without kit e kat.
I wanted to get it done before the curry delivery arrived, but the missus says its my fault and I shouldnt blame the Indians.

Looks like there's no bonus for me this week

If it's any consolation I've just run a script on UAT & forgot to put something in the where clause.

282,059 records updated They're right in the middle of UAT testing too.

Flak jacket & helmet time for me.

That's why you should always be careful to get married.

I agree with your wife. This hoovering business sounds like hard work. Not that i ever intend to try it.

What if you've committed the transaction?

Always use BEGIN TRANSACTION AND ROLLBACK (then COMMIT) when running UPDATE/DELETE!!!!!

I normally notice my mistake before the commit when millions of record have been updated!

The worst one i did was a card processing system for a cash-sales team at a large publishing house. The system was written due PCI-DSS, the system took a £1 deffered payment against the card (to prove was genuine before user started keying an enourmous order), i forgot to set the flag to indicate the payment was to be deferred, noone noticed for over a week and i had inadvertantly charged 2500 credit cards a £1
