    Another bank bites the dust:

"A judge has jailed a German banker for more than eight years for taking $44 million (R370 million) in bribes during the sale of Formula One in a case that centred on a payment from Bernie Ecclestone, the sport's commercial chief.

Presiding judge Peter Noll convicted BayernLB's former chief risk officer Gerhard Gribkowsky of tax evasion, bribery and breach of fiduciary trust in a court in Munich.

Noll described the billionaire Ecclestone as the “driving force” behind the payments but said Gribkowsky, in turn, had shown “high criminal energy”. "

I wish Ecclestone would just feck off so we can have the sport back.

Start with real tracks in places with traditional support for motor racing, not new scalextric tracks in the desert watched by rich bemused arabs or whatever.

We never see the historic Brands Hatch for F1 any more, or Estoril, Paul Ricard, Osterring, Jerez (all right, that was a boring one), Zandfort, Watkins Glen, Beunos Aries, Kyalami, Casablaca...

Except that as Europe crumbles, those countries are keeping the sport afloat.

It's also ludicrous to say that modern cars "need to" be racing on 100-year old tracks designed for a totally different type of car.

A mix of old and new, fast & slow is in keeping with the sport's mixture of tradition and cutting-edge technology.

The teams complain about how 'little' they're allowed to spend as it is.
