Everyone, and I mean everyone (event the kitchen staff) here has 24" monitors with 1920x1200 and some people even have 2!
I did consider nicking one from the students' to have two 1920x1080. I was the first to have two monitors in the office - after I'd bought a USB VGA adaptor. I've got two 1920x1200 in my home office.
There's no monitor wars. For the past six years, I've just had the permie cast- offs - it's a bit worrying as this is the first monitor that's actually been ordered specifically for me (well, thrown in as an after-thought when they decided to get some for the students).
With the cost of a decent monitor being way under £200 what's all the fuss?
...my quagmire of greed....my cesspit of laziness and unfairness....all I am doing is sticking two fingers up at nurses, doctors and other hard working employed professionals...
