      from the news story
In the past Mr Allingham has put the key to his old age down to "cigarettes, whisky and wild, wild women".

        From the BBC article:

At the celebrations, Mr Brown revealed events scheduled for the first national Veterans Day on 27 June this year.

Plans for the new annual day, to ensure the sacrifices of the Armed Forces were never forgotten, were announced in February.
Sounds like they want to phase out Remembrance day in November. I guess one can't go on commemorating the WW1 armistice (Nov 11, 11:00am) for ever, especially once the last vet has popped his clogs, although I would have thought 2018 would be a better final year.

2018? That's no good. The Rapture starts in 2016. Ask Chico. I shall wait until Dec 2015 to become a devout Christian.

Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.

Perhaps the chancellor is thanking the old boy for all the tobacco and alcohol duty he's donated to pay for the war in Iraq.

27 June aye, is that going to be a new bank holiday or just one of the pointless "jesture" commemorations?

Congratulations! You have just qualified for your state pension!

You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.
