    Can anyone explain this

I was thinking about this on the way over the pennines this morning.

The US started with a European population of a few hundred c1500, the population of the uk must have been ten million or so
Now the population of the US is 500 million, ours is 60 million

why did their population grow so much faster than ours ?

why dont we have 600 million since we started at a much higher level ?

USA had immigration from other parts of the world besides the UK

We had high infant mortality rate up until fairly recently
We also founded other colonies which lost us population
    Constant wars

First successful American colony was Jamestown, Virginia, founded in 1607.

The current US population is 295 million. Mass immigration from lots of different countries is probably the main reason, including lots of Catholics from Italy, Ireland and Spain (and ex-Spanish colonies) which equals very large families.
