    Team GB Medal Haul...

..dare I say it, and I could be wrong, mists of time etc, but didn't the erstwhile Labour Gov start this investment in Sport? Ok, it's bollox - means eff all but it does empower, I am benched but positive, no possibles (well one) market quiet but don't you feel there's some impetus building? Bit of nothing much but a bit of something good.

Coalition will claim it's their Glory, as every Gov has after the previous Gov has lain the foundations - both ways - I'm not that political - too old for this.

Doesn't matter - it cos a bit but I feel good about it whoever started it, Cool Britannia is Cool again...

It's been fun, but it's not been worth the investment.

Still it's paid for now, so might as well enjoy the moment.

      £140 each.

Compared to the vast sums pissed away saving corrupt institutions I'm happy with that.

Per person, per working person it'll be double that.

Not sure i'd pay 300 quid to bring them here - and i'm a filthy contractor with no mortgage, wife or kids.

Small potatoes and we should reap some economic benefit in the long run, and then theirs the 'feel good factor'.

It started well before the Coalition, and before the last Labour government.

As I understand it John Major introduced the National Lottery, with the express purpose of funding good causes, including sports, and he overhauled the Sports Council to distribute the money. The fruits of this couldn't show until years later, the 2000 Olympics was the first big step forward in results, which is how Labour gets credit.

To be fair to Labour, although Gordon Brown was forever trying to get his hands on it to fund his black holes, most of his party wouldn't go along with that.

So, John Major started it, Labour stopped Gordon Brown diluting it, and the Coalition didn't change it.

Major is possibly the only true fan of mass participation sport we've ever had as prime minister, which was part of his motivation. Unless someone can think of any others? Possibly Wilson.

No John Major started this off with the National Lottery so we can't thank or blame Blair or Brown.

Its nice to see that John Major is sat in the Velodrome celebrating with every other Brit.

Tbh high earners like us have probably paid a lot more than 300 because of progressive taxation.

Spencer Percival started it before he was the only assassinated British PM - FFS!
