New to contracting and looking for advice

    Hello,

I'll be starting contracting in Scotland quite soon as a project manager, and am in the process of considering my options re umbrella companies v setting up and administering my own company.

I have never contracted before, and it's proving to be a bit of a minefield trying to find reviews of umbrella companies and what they offer, or a straightforward "here's what you need to know" for setting up my own company and doing it all myself.

I would welcome any feedback on the merits of each option and what I should consider, meanwhile... the googling continues!

    Thanks in advance,
    Lesley

    Welcome to CUK Lesley!

Take a look in the Umbrella forum and go down the threads Umbrella Companies

There is also an excellent sticky discussing Ltd vs Umbrella. And of course there are the first timer guides to look at. >>>>>

    Good Luck!

Are you based in Scotland or just working in Scotland ?

It will have a bearing on how you form your Ltd Co.

And the director of one of the larger and most popular Umbrellas spends a lot of time posting on here which should give you some confidence in their service.
