    Paris

Just took the wife to Paris, and was most surprised that

    1. Most of the normal retail stores are shut on Sunday. Champs Elysees was bussling, like Oxford Street, actually more like Bond Street with the flag ship brand names up there.

    2. Most of the buses don't run on Sunday

Luckily the Metro runs and so do most cafes and restaurants.

This is the captial city of a major European country, WTF.
    How backward.

On the bright side the wife didn't get to spend too much additional dosh.
Never has a man been heard to say on his death bed that he wishes he'd spent more time in the office.

everywhere other than food places and petrol stations are closed on Sundays in Germany also. It's a continental thing whereby people like the idea of a "day off" shopping and dont see the need to pay people extra to work that day
