Or was it one of the things linked to that didn't work?

(TBH I wouldn't be surprised if Google had managed to screw up IE8 support anyway, as they never seem to test their stuff on anything but Chrome before releasing it )

If I was runnning a web site I'd include some Javascript to make clients' browsers hang if they were out of date, to punish them for not bothering to update.

So anyone running Internet Explorer 8 (or 9) would have to reboot their PC each time they visited one of my pages. They'd soon get the message!

Could be, but I know Annie Mole's blog well and it's looked like that for years - certainly since long before IE8, or even IE7, were around. I reckon it's some of the crap Blogger wraps around perfectly good HTML 4.01 content

And Google's support page that I linked to above says "For best results, turn off Compatibility View."

Makes sense though: the new Blogger templates (which suck due to excessive use of JavaScript BTW) presumably prefer Standards View, but as Annie is still using her trusty old templates they need to be in Compatibility View.

A long time ago, I would test for non IE browsers and if detected route to the IE download page, it really annoys geeky types. Now days I cant see any point in using anything other than Chrome.
