Disappearing Doors - Anybody have them or got them done before?

Building work started in the house and everywhere covered in dust.

Has anybody ever tried getting Disappearing doors fitted into a wall? Anybody know a decent company with a decent price for them?

probably best if you contact a few shop fitters. I would imagine there are a number of suppliers but it would be a small market, have you tried ebay?

Just remember they may look lovely & maximise space but should they get a stone or such caught in the tracks it can be a pain to free up: check that your design has a means of access to the internal tracks, some sort of removable panel or the like.

They do indeed look lovely - anybody have any experience with them? Seems I need to get a pro joiner to come and fit it, anybody know how complicated it is to fit one of these?

What is the wall construction you are fitting it in to? If its block or brick then walk away, If it’s a timber or metal stud then should be fairly easy;

• Remove existing door & frame
• Make good opening (plaster or dry line)
• Fill in fixing holes
• install & paint new architrave
• remove one side of the wall lining
• fit frame & tracks (remembering to ensure it is truly level)
• Build timber frame surround to support new door & take the new wall lining,
• Cut back floor finishes & remove transition strip, lay self-levelling compound, edged by one sided transition strips
• reline with plaster board, tape & joint or skim coat it then decorate to match (let’s hope that room does not have expensive & hard to match wall paper)
• reinstate new skirting & decorate

Oh & hope like hell that the wall has no M&E supplies in it or noggins & pattressess to support any fixture or fittings

As I said a nice simple job that has a lot of potential to go totally wrong to the point of having to get a professional in to make good your attempt

Getting the tracks level is a really important point. If its slightly out then the door will roll open/shut
