    Mr Creosote has disappeared

Autumn is the time of Garden Spiders (the ones with the stripey legs). We've had lots this year, but we've been keeping an eye on one in particular.

This was partly because he had constructed a large web next to our front door, but mostly because he was huge, with a body like a walnut, so we called him Mr Creosote.

Yesterday we noticed that Mr Creosote was missing from his usual haunt tucked up behind the gutter over the front door, so we assume the weekend chill has either done for him, or he's hibernating (do they hibernate?)

It's a bit sad that he's gone. Did anyone else have a really big one this year?

you will always end up with one big one, even if you never see him, he's there. then he dies when the food runs out

good point. and the food supply for the big ones is the smaller ones. And when they eat the males, do you know what bit they save for last ?
