Pranab Mukherjee, the Indian finance minister, said in February that Delhi did not need British aid but had agreed to accept the aid under pressure from Britain.
So what can UK spend £140m on?

Most of the "Aid" is in the form of goods like trucks etc that would require India to purchase parts etc from the UK company. The EU have complained for years that this is a form of government support to UK companies.

We could put it down as a deposit on a BTL house in London.

The only aid given to third world countries should be for contraception, they only problem in the world is the excessive human population which is destroying the planet

Good. Precisely the sort of self interested "aid" that China is now supplying to Africa with considerable benefit to some African GDPs. Proper trade does far more good than a lot of idealistic measures like mosquito nets etc that only boost the population and do nothong to address real economic problems.

We don't have to save the world. The world is big enough to look after itself. What we have to be concerned about is whether or not the world we live in will be capable of sustaining us in it.

Exactly. That's why the British government had to ask the Indian government to continue accepting our "aid".
