Allegations of abuse began to emerge as early as May 1979 after schoolchildren began to notice someone had stolen their state-provided milk.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation! -

As someone who loathes Thatcher and her pathetic apologists, but also likes to ensure historical accuracy, I have to report that like so much populist crap spouted on here, that characterisation (milk snatcher) of her is a little wide of the mark;
Responding to the demands to end free school milk, Mrs Thatcher said: "I think that the complete withdrawal of free milk for our school children would be too drastic a step and would arouse more widespread public antagonism than the saving justifies."
She proposed the compromise, later accepted, that milk would only be available to pupils in nursery and primary schools.
She also increased taxes, both in absolute terms and as a proportion of GDP.
She also intervened when that "nice" Mr Major was holding out against paying pensioners a cold weather payment during the worst winter since 1947.
Credit where it's due.Comment

The same goes for the steel industry, ship building etc, as usual the Conservatives are prepared to face reality and make the hard decisions, Labour simply push it to one side and continue to spend other peoples money and do what their union paymasters tell them."The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance." CiceroComment
