    Sh$t, car hire............

Supposed to be hiring a car from Cork next Thursday. Can only find the plastic card, does anyone know if car hire firms always require both bits, if yes do you know if the DVLA do some sort of fast track replacement service or is it a very exspensive taxi (57 miles each way)

I use EasyCrate and Avis occasionally. They both require the counterpart unfortunately.

        No you don't

You can ask the hire company to phone DVLA who will verify your details. It's a premium rate number and you have to be there at the time to give your permission.

        HTH

        Driver Check Service: 0906 139 - 3837

(for hire car companies with driver's consent)

Goods news, but is there a prefix so the number can be used from overseas?

Or do premium rate numbers still work from Ireland?

Try this thread - some chap issued a FOI request to force DVLA to reveal their non-geographic telephone number:

            clicky

The response is quite a way down on page 3, not sure if the link takes you straight there or not

I have just used Avis and used my plastic card only. I lost the paper thingy ages ago.
