Any of you agricultural types know of a good 4WD for Pater?

...seeing as he lives at the end of a rutted track in Sussex, he needs a tough 4x4 if he's not to be stuck during rainy weather as well as snow. Any recommendations for a 4x4 up to £20K.
Effectiveness more improtant than style. Don't know anything about 4x4s

    Toyota Hilux,
    Landrover Defender
    Subaru Forester

I used to have a hilux and it was simply indestructible. Very competant vehicle indeed when off road and bouncing along icy rutted lanes.

WHS, or a Toyota Land Cruiser if he wants more comfort.

Ok Ta may ignore the Landrover as they seem to have reliability problems.
Like the Subaru idea - seem to be some good second hand ones for under £20K

Or a G class Mercedes; they do cost a few bob but they seem pretty indestructible too.

Probably too expensive...this is coming out of his savings (i.e. my inheritance)

Nissan Patrol every day of the week. Utilitarian, but slightly more comfy than a Landy, and also cheap as chips second hand. Bullet proof reliability (the UN use them) and cheap to repair.

Seriously, the best there is second hand. Landy's are really over priced and Land cruisers way too range roverish now.

Scubby Forester everytime - we have one, its ace.

Never gets stuck, not too big (i.e. easy for the wife to park).

                    Bomb proof.
