I tried that with baby bp when he was 3 in the woods. Left him having a tantrum and walked 400 metres away. He stood and watched me - then ran off the opposite way having seen his chance for freedom. I didn't try that one again.

I think "Santa's not coming. You've been bad" is fine. The causative link of "because" is what turns it into a lie.

This is terrible parenting because it takes the kid no time at all to learn it's an empty threat.

If you make a threat, you MUST be prepared to carry it out.
