    Questions to ask before accepting a contract?

    Hi all,

    Here is my second thread and I have a "simple" question : what are the questions to ask when you receive a "contracting contract" proposal from a company? I received a couple of offers and they only mention the proposed hourly rate and the duration of the contract but I feel I should ask more questions like the number of hours per week etc etc

    Thanks all for your help

    1) Make a list of what you want to know.
    2) Ask that.

          Can you send this to MUN, as he would be better at it than me?

          Or give them your user name and tell them that they can ask any question they want about you here and we will answer it.

            How about a serious answer guys? :-)
            More seriously, it is the first time I am going to go contractor (through an umbrella company) and I want to make sure I do understand most of the conditions

              What are the things you want to be contractually bound to?

              I'll start you off

              * Notice period
              * Rate
              * Duration
              * Definition of role/project aligned to
              * Payment terms
              * Any handcuff clauses

                  For serious questions we usually use the Business forum rather than General.

                  We do not know what is in your contract, what it is for or what you want out of it. It is difficult to know what to ask.

                  Have you read and reread the guides on the right? They are very useful and full of information that you need.

                  What is it a contract for? A one of job to fix someone's boiler? A 6 month C++ programming task under client control with no ROS for an investment bank? A 1 month rolling contract to play Marius on the West End?

                  I am guessing that it is a professional IT one but if you could give us the specifics then we might be able to help more.

                    Thanks for your answer Kelstar.

                    Got a couple of questions related to your answer:
                    Any handcuff clauses I should avoid ?(if all of them)
                    Payment terms : You mean getting paid per week or per month I guess?
                    Billing method: What do you mean by that?

                    Should I also ask in my contract fall under IR35 legislation?
