    England post-mortem

    Rooney
I like the England team's pleas for everyone not to blame Rooney.

This is a young man who has fallen foul of too much adulation, too much money, too quickly. The humbling experience of a good old drudging at the hands of press and fans alike, will do him good. If he aint humbled, he won't learn much.

    Sven
I'm not sure it's helpful to blame him too much. Sure, his choice of squad was questionable, his tactics questionable. This is common for any manager exiting a major tournament. But Sven did command the respect of his players.

In this regard it was a team (incl manager) who were grossly over-rated in their own eyes, the eyes of TV panelists (the very same TV panelists who were still writing off Germany at the 2nd round stage) and the eyes of the press. Once again this was an international team barely deserving of a top 8 seeding in anybody's book.

    Character
Yet again England players proved they can only show any character, once it's too late. England's ability to take penalties under pressure is absolutely feeble. Call it what it is - feeble. This is perfect testimony to England's lack of character.

Think character is not a major influence ? Then just look at Germany's history in this tournament. Compare their penalties under pressure with England's, in any tournament.

    What next ?
Under the new manager, I think the international team needs to 'enjoy' playing in tournaments against a backdrop of reduced expectations. As and when they're going to lose, lose having played well throughout the tournaments. That's when England'll progress further in major tournaments.

    Future expectations
England, internationally struggle to deserve a top 8 seeding. Everyone needs to reduce their expectations of these over rated and over paid players. It isn't their fault they're over-rated and over paid. It's more the public's fault.

Sven was making bizarre decisions that were leading to failure in the past - it was really strange to expect him to change all of a sudden, he should have been sacked long time ago, along with anyone who created contract for £5 mln pa with just £1 mln bonus for winning World Cup, would you bother if your bonus was only 4% of base?

Look at Mexico - their team played every single friendly game, like 27 of them, and Sven played 7 or so - less than any other country in world cup, so why should it come as suprise that he experiments with different formations when the tournament is on? If he ain't working his arse off years between competitiont, then wtf he is paid for?

To be slightly fair to Sven, one of the biggest problems any England manager faces is negotiating the release of club players from their managers for international duties. Alex Ferguson, for instance, is well known for being obstructive and considering international games to be a waste of his players' time.

How do managers of foreign international teams deal with the managers of English league teams to get them released for the friendlies of other international teams?

AFAIK FA rules pretty much allow national team manager pick up any fit player, and its just Sven was "nice" to club managers not to pick their main players, so he played fewer friendly games and not using main players. Big suprise that he has to experiment during actual competition, but of course Sven was nice to club managers, perhaps that's why he was paid 5 mln quid a year.

Sven is a twat of the first order. Good riddance. Mclaren won't be much better. Bring back Venables I say, murky past or not. Then get rid of Becks once and for all, never play Lampard and Gerard together (they are natural subs for each other) , Hargreaves should now be a regular, Crouch and Rooney up front, with Cole and Lennon feeding balls in to them.
There you go you incompetent old buffoons in the FA - good free advice and it doesn't cost you £25M.
              Hard Brexit now!

Perhaps we should offer to outsource managing the England team to CUK...

The giant alien lizard can deal with the press, Janey provides physio services, the Master is in charge of tactics, Malvolio handles contract negotiations, Threaded espouses slightly odd philosphy as per Glenn Hoddle, Fortune Green supplies the team with porn, and the Daleks exterminate all opposition.

P.S Beckham has resigned as captain.

Rooney ... Overpaid Overweight and Over rated.

I did predict that Rooney could get sent off sooner or later; much hype; dissapointment to his country and for all the meida frenzy not a goal to his credit ...England would do better without this kind of hothead.

Shame that Gerrard missed a penalty as he was one of the few I rated; overall a very poor performance from England and they dont deserve to continue further.

The winner is Sven who now collects a cool 5 MILLION POUNDS

                    Didnt he do well ....
