    What's been your best gig?

We've all seen the posts about the nightmare gigs but what about the great ClientCo's you've worked with?

I've been doing this for decades so been with the worst and the best and everything in between but one does stand out.

Got a six monther with a US media company based in Maine in the US, all expenses covered including a hire car, hotel, flights home if needed and a great rate. The culture was typically US, lots of enthusiasm not just for the work we did but a drive to make the company successful and perhaps the most friendly place I've seen. At any meetings we had pizza would be delivered so we could indulge as we discussed whatever was on the agenda. Friday afternoons we had a barbecue in the parking lot outside the office which gave us the chance to network with people from other departments that we wouldn't normally meet which helped build bonds and get tasks done more efficiently. If anyone in the department had a birthday we finished work two hours early that day to have cake and ice cream.

Senior management had an open door policy and anything could be discussed and would occasionally have the department with partners and kids over to their house at weekends for barbecues no expense spared - forty live lobsters ready to be cooked, kegs of draft beer and so on.

An amazing place to work but no surprise they went bust with huge debts although to be honest it was more their flawed business model rather than the culture.

What's been your best gig, named ClientCo or not?

Done a few US ones now and in a lot of cases the different culture and willingness to socialise is very refreshing. 38 places for me now in 16 years.

For me two spring to mind. One of the Virgin companies was particularly good. Brand new company around 1998/1999 money no object. Over 100 contractors on full pay. Parties fully expensed. Hard work. Play hard. Well cool.

Parliament the second. Strange place. Like hogwarts, put memories that stick with me.
What happens in General, stays in General.
You know what they say about assumptions!

I got my own office when I was there everybody else got a cubicle, I've never come across that anywhere else.

Every gig I have worked at has been the best, they have all paid invoice on time, anything after that I don't care.

My current gig is the best one. There's some girl who stands at the kitchen sink every day waiting for the kettle to boil while wiggling her arse (I assume) to some tune in her head.

Probably the first one. It was a small software company, I got on well with everybody including the MD and technical director who were always around and on first name terms, and I never once felt like I was in any way an outsider, or underappreciated for what I was doing. But above all there was a total lack of BS: No PMs taking the credit and contributing nothing, no Agile or any other such nonsense, few meetings, just a good team of people being allowed to work effectively.

If I ever get back to being in charge of a software company, that place would be the blueprint for how I'd want to run it.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

Sky. I got to chat and oggle at the delightful Lisa Burke. She certainly brightened up my day! Lovely lass.
If you think my attitude stinks, you should smell my fingers.

                This one.
3 days working from home, flexible working provided work is done, interesting and creative work.
                And the rate is excellent.
Also in the bigger picture, few bobs yet, probably becaue of higher barriers to entry (relatively few people have the ability or desire to learn mathematical stats) and global demand worldwide.
                Hard Brexit now!
