I looked into the linguist roles at MI5 when they were hiring forensic phoneticians a few months ago. Only marginally better paid than these jobs, and a much more specialist skill than just the knowledge of a foreign language.

Friend of mine did Russian at uni.
All the others doing Russian ended up working for the security services.
My friend couldnt join as his parents were not Brits and he couldnt pass security clearances.Comment
