Cambridge debating stars left in tears over sexist heckles about their looks during prestigious student competition | Mail Online

Female finalists in university debating contest left in tears by barrage of sexist heckles from male students in Glasgow

I was sitting behind the boys from Glasgow Union and could hear them making audible derogatory comments about the speakers’ appearances – their hair, dresses, chest size, how attractive they were – physically picking them apart, as well as yelling “shame woman” and booing.
“I’m sorry they did that but they aren’t bad guys and it’s just how it is here and how they are. They are only joking”.’
Out of order, or part of the game?

    Mich?

And those are your future managers, directors, politicians, etc. Says a lot for university educated people....
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

In a professional context they'd be dragged over the coals. They went to uni to learn so teach them a lesson, and kick them off the debating team.

The blokes that is ,not the girlies.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

There are 2 unions at Glasgow, the QM and the GU.

That is standard GU behaviour. The QM would have sent down a group of Afghan lesbians.

One of my academic regrets was not going to Glasgow despite having an offer. I can down a pint in 2 seconds and the drinking competition at the GU is quite famous, you get your name painted above the bar.

Might be doing a masters this year though

                    Sounds like straightforward envy

But if the women were putting forward some contentious argument, whether a fluffy one about needing to donate more to people in poor countries or the opposite, like arguing that the NHS should be abolished or that student loans were a Good Thing, then maybe the hecklers were simply expressing hostility to that. But poor form even so, for people who are supposed to be educated.
