The left hate her because she dismantled the intstitutions of socialism and she exposed as a myth that socialism is in any way benign. Before she arrived there were plenty enjoying the riches and privileges that were thanks to her to become available to everyone, from Essex boys working on trading floors and earning loads of money to free and prosperous IT specialists who were released from the shackles of outdated IT departments to build systems that would enable businesses to rid themselves of costly labour intensive practices and compete in International markets.
The Trade Unionists, the Public servants the political classes and the leaders of the Nationalised industries were the priviliged closed shop beneficiaries of the state controlled economy. These people did not want to have their positions, their entitlement and their power taken away. They most certainly did not want common little oiks to own their own homes and become free to freelance their skills and build new businesses. Even today these people who found it quite disgusting that poor people could become rich sneer and accuse (everyone else) of being materialistic and selfish.
One of Thatchers great strengths was that she had no truck with the vested interests of the ruling and priviliged elite.
Most of those who "hate " her try to hide their reasons for doing so behind some of the irrelevant failings of her time (Poll tax - how long did that last?) the sinking of the Belgrano just because it was "going in the opposite direction". These people also whine on about the destruction of mining communities (you are not kidding anyone - you dont give a sh*t). I am sorry but I will accept such arguments from the likes of Neil Kinnock and the miners themselves but not spoilt and prosperous middle class liberals with a feigned conscience but no intention of sharing out their own wealth.
No one here or anywhere for that matter is arguing for a return to the bankrupt union dominated economy that existed prior to the arrival of Thatcher. why not? No what they do not like is the fact that they have no moral high ground to hide their own selfish greed.
