    My Uncle Ronnie died today

89, joined up in 1940, spent the end of the war in the Far East - no one in the family knows what happened but it was to do with Japanese Snipers, spent the rest of his life a hermit - he'd hardly speak to anyone at all, let alone talk about the war, makes you wonder what he saw.

    RIP Unc

      RIP

My Uncle Tom had a terrible time in Burma during the war. He didn't become a recluse, but that kind of experience marks a man for life.

        My condolences too.
Now if you're quick they might be able to fit him in at St Paul's behind Maggie..

RIP. My Uncle Bill was captured by the Japs after the fall of Singapore and spent a few years under Japanese control. He never talked that much about it although he did teach me what to do should I ever find myself being bled white by leeches.

He should not have been there in the first place

My Granddad 92 and still going strong, was in the Navy loves to tell a few stories, and in fact they are great tales.. his brother on the other hand, was out in the far East, would never speak to a sole about it either, even to my Granddad..

I had a neighbour of a similar age who was a PoW in Austria. He bashed a guard and from the punishment that followed turned from a very smart young lad much loved by the ladies into someone not able to function any more.

He lived with his mum until she died and then with his brother and SIL until he became too much for them to cope so they had no choice but to put him in a home.

It was an achievement when he could report back to his brother/SIL that he had seen me out with my dog on his daily walk and remember our names.

                    Very sad.
