    For the musicians on here

Do you write or just gig covers / play at home? Where do you publish / showcase your music?

There are lots of places to host your music for free as well as paid, do you get much response, even sell tracks or albums?

Open mic nights in local pubs (you can always find one around). And I post to friends on FB and G+.

    And all sorts of covers.

I do pub/cover gigs, pretty much every weekend. I am strictly a 'copier' though and don't have an original bone in my musical body.

As you know. Mr Cliphheed, I don't record myself (apart from one that I let you hear) and recording yourself doing covers is a pretty wank thing to do anyway.

I've bought myself a Scarlett 4 AD converter thingy and am determined to write something even if it's tulipe

Did rock/pop covers in my old band for pubs, clubs, weddings etc

Not very good at writing my own stuff as I cannot sing very well.

However, this weekend I'm meeting up with my old band guitarist to try out his vocaliser and sort some stuff out for open mike stuff. Quite nervous to be honest!

My brother's trying to get into music for video games but is going the "do some free work in the hope of publicity" route. Apparently one of his games is #10 in iTunes so hopefully that's a turning point - Cliphead you know anything about that market?

A difficult market to get in to. I have a friend who does that full time but he just about breaks even and it took him years to get to that point.

Only thing to do is to keep submitting music to the various games companies and hope for the best. A common (wrong), assumption is that some producer will hear a track and want to use it but this almost never happens, if you get commissioned to write music for a game or whatever the director / producer will dicatate what they want so you'd be composing from scratch (and constantly changing), and be expected to have it wrapped up in days.
