Shell and BP raided in probe into petrol price fixing: Oil firms investigated over claims they manipulated cost for more than a decade | Mail Online

BP and Shell are being investigated over allegations that they have fixed petrol prices for more than a decade.
European Commission investigators raided the offices of several major oil companies yesterday as they launched a far-reaching probe into price manipulation.
They fear prices have been driven up at the pumps for millions of motorists. The AA responded to news of the swoop by declaring: ‘The lid is about to be blown off.’

The Brussels bureaucrats won't accept the idea that fraud and market rigging is part and parcel of the British economy.
<Insert idea here> will never be adopted because the politicians are in the pockets of the banks!

Almost all of the cost of petrol and diesel is duty/VAT (tax) so it makes very little difference.

It's not just the petrol at the pump. If you manipulate oil price at the source, you inflate the whole supply chain. This is way bigger than the Libor scandal.

If it involves bankers, the only action taken will be they get a bigger bonus.

            nothing new here

a company has applied slightly dubious practices to increase profit

and as usually they are morally bankrupt

If they have inflated the prices artificially then they'll get found out - they'll get a massive fine - it won't get divvied up and paid out to us - it'll get pi55ed up the wall by Dave and his euro mates.

They all do that. If the price drops mining / oil companies curb back a little. If demand rises they up production. Hardly price fixing, simple supply and demand

How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think
