Things I do in my semi-retirement

    Read (lots.)
    Motorcycling (lots.)
    Gardening (a bit.)
    Scan Jobserve once a week.

No mortgage, no kids; healthy savings, pension and warchest.

Anyone else around here work the same way? If so, what do you do in your spare time?

I thought I could retire and live off rental income. But it drove me nuts.
So now sadly drifting back to 5 days a week.
But i draw the line at commuting.
      Hard Brexit now!

But - seriously - what would it take to make your semi-retire?

Don't understand why a seasoned veteran like yourself works so hard?

Surely you can't need the money that badly after all these years?

The way you are going, you might be dead before you ever get the chance to enjoy it...

Im on one last hurrah. Hoping to bank the money by the end of the year and go and do a self build/renovation project in the West Country and most likely open a new shop.

Would it be open in time for snow?

But surely sitting in an office 5 days a week doing IT whilst watching your life ebb away is depressing?

If you don't need the money, then why not spend 5 days a week doing mathematical research? Phd, maybe (if you haven't already done that)?

Yep, that's something I've got to seriously look into.

I'm not doing IT, I'm doing HEOR/Modelling. It's quite interesting and if you have the experience its judging which model to run rather than constant graft like coding. I wouldn't do it if I didn't enjoy it on some level.
The "sadly" related to the fact that I don't seem able to do nothing - too driven.
