    Children and Software

    I've two daughters, ages 8 and 6.

They both have old surplus to requirements laptops.

The 6 year old has an 11 year old Toshiba which happily runs educational
    software and MS Paint

The 8 year old has an 8 year old Toshiba which also happily runs educational
    software and MS Paint

They both like drawing pictures with MS Paint and I've been wondering to get
them onto a better Paint Brush tool and see how they get on

I remembered that up in the loft I have an old version of Paint Shop Pro which
I bought years ago for getting red eye out of digital photo's but as it's not
.Net I couldn't figure it out and put it up in the loft

Well I installed it on their laptops and let them get on with it

Well bugger me if they haven't worked it all out, all the effects and tools,
and the pictures they are producing now are unbelievable, they're a right
pair of budding graphic designers now

Funny isn't it how children can pickup software

    Milan.

Wouldn't you have been better buying them an easel, some watercolours, giving them one of your old shirts to use as smocks and letting them paint proper?

      Just asking like
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

We bought the kids some 'how to paint' software, and now they're pumping stuff out in real time like mad.

We also bought them graphics tools, so they can draw directly to the computer, and TV; they just plug them in and use a pen on a tablet and it comes to life. Quite neat really.

You can mix old and new school quite well.

                  That sounds good.

Jr now knows how to work my iPad, recognises the app for YouTube and asks for Row Row... (your boat!) He loves the nursery rhyme stuff.

I've also had to put the passcode thing on my phone, he knows how to open that too

I got my two Kurio tablets, basically Android 4.0 with a child friendly UI and rubberised casing with a load of pre loaded learning software, they love it.
