The permies are in a tizzy.

It seems that the network drive they save all their work to has blown up and no one had checked to see if it was being backed up.

I naturally have proper backups of all my work.

*Whistles smugly while wondering how much to raise my rate for the next contract extension*

Quite, I've got enough spare room for another 10 clients before I fill this one.

One place I worked, I found out that my workstation was the SourceSafe server and the SQL Server...

      Whoops.

Anyone with any experience in IT learns early on that Network backups are tulipe. About three times in as many decades I have requested a restore of some files, not one was successful. In one case, a very smal company, I subsequently learned they only had one backup disc and saved to it every night. Always save at least daily to CD now.

          I think you were unlucky???

Before I moved in management I performed remote backups and restores with Storage Tech units using ADSM and Rexx.

I have installed and run Legato, Veritas and another that escapes me. Sure we had teething problems but they soon get resolved.

In my last roll my server guys had backsups down pat...in fact virtually all the jobs I've been involved with I have never had a restrore issue.

You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.
