    Just weird from a German

Colleague who I call food guy came into the office this afternoon.

"Suity, I need to borrow a spitfire"

    Suity taps pockets.

    "Sorry dude, fresh out. Wassup?"

"Our colleagues in Dublin are doing my head in. I wanted to go and bomb them"

"Dude, I never EVER thought I'd hear a German asking to borrow a spitfire. Surely you have a Stuka lying around?"

Then my boss chimes in : "You guys were pretty afraid of the Stuka"

"They civilians on the ground mebe. I think the Meschersmitt gave the RAF a torrid time until the mach 3 spitfire with the Merlin engine was produced, then we kicked your ass"

I'm going for a job at the UN next. Quite literally in the running for one.

    Mach 3 Spitfire - wow

All spits had Merlins at first, think they got Vultures later?

FW190 was best fighter in WW2 IMHO..

You need to explain that spitfires were fighters, not bombers. Dear me.

Wouldn't it be easier to bomb Dublin with a v2?

Stukas were easy meat for Spits and Hurricanes. Spitfires could out turn ME109's so they had the advantage but pilot training and experience were factors in who won the fight.

Mach 3? Dream on. Later Spits had a constant speed prop (and Hurricanes), and the addition of a supercharger which made a difference.

                As I said, I think I meant Mark 3.

That said I recall the Meschershmitts could engage in a vertical climb and the earlier spits could not as the fuel would drain from the carb. So that's when superchargers were fitted. I thought this was the Mark 3.

I may be wrong (and think I am).
