    Dress code for day 1?

The team wear casual, whereas half of the building wear suits.

If I go for a suit the team aren't going to be impressed, but may also meet lots of people outside the team.

What's your dress code strategy for day 1?

Day 1 wear a suit. Day 2 onwards go in what you need to wear.

Suits are for weddings and funerals only...

Day 1 - Shirt and smart trousers, no tie.
Day 2 onwards - Casual but always smarter than the permies

These days I ask in the "anything you'd like to ask us" bit of the interview. I adopted this tactic after seeing a new contractor on a project left somewhat discombobulated on his first day, having taken his cue from what he'd seen at interview without realising that was on dress-down Friday

Mind you, I haven't worn a tie for any reason since 2005, and haven't had a suit that fits for almost as long. I'd rather pass on a gig than wear a tie. What do they think it is, a place of work, or a school?

                  Suit + Tie.
After day one, losing the tie is priority #1
After that usually I end up wearing the suit until the end of the contract.

                    Jeans and a polo shirt.

Part of the reason I like the current client co is that they let me dress like a bin man while paying me tulip loads. I like the irony.
