    Best all round camera

I have a Nikon D40 bought a few years ago, and it looks out of date now: too chunky and fiddly.
Tech seems to have moved on and it seems you can get great pictures from a not very large package.
What cameras would the congregation recommend: not too chunky, not too fiddly, but clear, with good zoom and ability for built in digital enhancement?

    Usage: general/holiday.
    Budget: unlimited, within reason.
    Skill factor required: low.
    Hard Brexit now!

You'll need a decent zoom lens if you want a great photo from your not very large package.

I was hoping for built in zoom. Or is that a no-no?

I'm tempted by the Panasonic Lumix FT5

LUMIX Digital Cameras - Waterproof Cameras - DMC-FT5 - Manuals - Panasonic UK & Ireland

I'm also currently looking into this - do you want interchangeable lenses do you mind Bridge format or do you need a DSLR- the Olympus PEN E-PL5 appears to be a good choice for a bridge - but as always (like buying any tech item) there are negatives to each choice
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

That post is generally a "whoosh". Don't really know anything much about cameras.
I know I don't want to change lenses at any time.
So it must have built in ability to take decent panoramic shots as well as close ups.
              A good all-rounder in one self-contained package.

Dim, your suggestion not bad, but has stuff I don't need like underwater ability and doesn't have stuff I would like like panoramic ability.

By good zoom do you mean zoom ratio or reach at the long end? High zoom ratio usually means physical bulk and / or compromised image quality all over so if you want a long telephoto you might be better off with an interchangeable lens system and a telephoto zoom of more limited range.

I like the look of the Panasonic 4/3rds ones. I am going to buy one myself, just as soon as I can swallow my pride and admit I can't be arsed carrying a massive bag of lenses around any more.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'
