What would Obi Wan Kenobi say about the UK recession?

09.30 Britain never had a double dip recession, according to the latest revisions to GDP data by the ONS.

Revised data showed that Britain's economy did not shrink in the first three months of 2012, and output was instead flat, the Office for National Statistics said following a major annual revision of Britain's economic data.

That meant that the country did not suffer the two consecutive quarters on contraction which commonly define a recession.

But the media said it did.

      All a Jedi mind trick.

The new revised data shows Britain under the coalition never had a double dip, it's all been tickety boo all along.

      Boomed!

No wonder house prices are flying.

We've never had it so good!

ONS is like the Met Office - basically produces bolox forecasts and revises after the event to align with the actuals
Also open to influence to produce what politicians want to hear
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

They probably use Bayesian analysis to revise their conclusions as new data comes in.
