Post office to be sold off

BBC News - Royal Mail to be floated on stock exchange

Bit of a surprise. I can't help thinking the service will deteriorate, at least initially.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

Well the Dutch Post Office has become a joke since privatisation.

Something tells me it'll be a full on comedy sketch in the years to come.

I'd bet vital parts of my anatomy the British public will be complaining about worsening poor postal service, and ludicrous price increases. But that's all it'll amount to, a new paper article and a few nasty comments on HYS. In the end we'll all submit like good little citizens.

At least they won't have to lie when they say "we haven't received any complaints".

Firstly Post Office and Royal Mail are two different things, they get very arsey when you forget to distinguish the two.

PO has been sold off a long time ago, RM the Pension shortfall will be kept by the Govt (can't see anyone daft enough to want to take that on) and if the Unions can be appeased (not looking likely) it could do well given the shift of focus from letters to parcels with the boom in online shopping.

Why do they expect us to give a tulip?

Royal Mail collects and delivers the mail, Parceforce parcles and Post Office Ltd is the retail company which run the Crown Post offices (just under 400) and all three are wholly owned subsidiaries of Royal Mail Group Limited, the majority of the 12000 Post Office Branches are independantly run franchies
