PC sales see 'longest decline' in history

BBC News - PC sales see 'longest decline' in history

People are still buying these metal boxes that go under your desk? Thought that was something you did in the 90's?

Spend an hour or two at Overclocker's new real life store and you'll find the PC box market very healthy indeed.

They are now built by goths, country and western singers and speed-freak Top Gear fans by the look of the customer base. No-one buys a ready-built box anymore. It's all water-cooled (), clear-sided florescent speed monsters with owners buying the latest processors and biggest sound and graphics cards.

When Mr C eventually got to the head of the queue with his list of budget bits of box and AMD motherboard he was dealt with kindly (and rather condescendingly) by the shop assistant in the same way the young man would speak to his grandad.

Serves Mr C. right for tapping out his pipe tobacco on the shop counter. And for going shopping in his slippers.

But that's still a very small section of the market. Most people aren't going to do that, anymore than they are likely to install Linux. The mainstream market has taken a battering from tablets and smartphones.

Yes you're right. HP is probably quite unhappy about that these days.

Being using my rMBP (bought it last year like a good little fan bouy) and there's no need for a desktop whatsoever. Hook it up to the 27" display, it's just awesome.

Yep, Mr C has his budget box, I have my MBP.

(Mr C, later admitted that the box was a stop-gap until I passed my MBP onto him as I normally do after a few years )

Then again they make tulip quality products. Talk about broken hinges and creaking bezels
That and we cannot download the latest drivers straight from Nvidia et al, because the motherboards are all cheap custom made trash.
I am Brad. I do more than the needful and drive the market rates up by not bobbing my head.

My desktop PC has been in bits for over a year now. I just don't use it. I used to keep it fairly current so that I could play games on it, but the games market seems to have died off also.

A husband whose only solace in life is to partake of his wife's old, soiled and decrepit hand-me-downs.

You've taken a firm, controlling hand in that marriage, CJ; a firm, controlling hand indeed...
