How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

We went to one in Massachusetts last summer (or maybe Connecticut). Got lots of typically American tree decorations.

"We've had a successful Christmas shop within the cathedral for many years and we've found, oddly enough, that during the summer months when we get more visitors, people want to buy good quality Christmas products,"

Clearly way too much money in the economy still.

The bastards. Commercialising christmas is the job of thrusting capaitalists, not beardy sandal wearers. If the church has decided to start nicking peoples jobs where will it lead? Next they'll be offering payday loans.

Indulgence - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In Catholic theology, an indulgence is a remission of temporal[1] punishment due to sin, the guilt of which has been forgiven.[2][3][4] An indulgence is thus not forgiveness of the guilt of sin nor release from the eternal punishment due to unforgiven mortal sins; nor is it a permit to commit sin, a pardon of future sin, nor a guarantee of salvation for oneself or for another.[2][5] Ordinarily, forgiveness of grave sins is to be obtained only through the sacrament of Confession (i.e., penance or reconciliation).

Indulgences have replaced the remission of the severe penances of the early Church which was granted at the intercession of Christians awaiting martyrdom or at least imprisoned for the faith.[6] They draw on the Treasury of Merit accumulated by Christ's superabundantly meritorious sacrifice on the cross and the virtues and penances of the saints.[7] They are granted for specific good works and prayers[7] in proportion to the devotion with which those good works are performed or prayers recited.[8]
I couldn't tell you - there's pages of this stuff on there. I'm too used to links to the mail or sun to be able to comprehend what's going on here. But I am prepared to assume the choir boy gets bummed at some point in proceedings.
