No. It is a financial term, used throughout the industry in the UK. I would have thought someone purporting to be a specialist in debt collection would know that...
    Oooooh

In actual fact CUK is pretty much the only place you see recurring references to "dunning" in the UK.

Why not google it on google.co.uk and see how many "specialist debt collectors" are using the term to find leads... Oh wait, none of them are.

I see it on every financials project that I've worked on.

      Fine!

(Although a quick straw poll in the office shows no one has ever heard a UK client use it, in 30 years)

Anyway We will stop derailing this thread now

Nah. I've shifted it to General now. (Just these bits).

Dunning is derived from the word "dun" which comes from Dunkirk, a slang word for a privateer. In many software suites, like SAP, it is the term used within the credit management module. In many UK companies I've contracted to, there has been an overnight "dunning run".

            We know of it's origins

But don't forget SAP is software, built by (Americans) EDIT: Ignore us, was Germans.

Honestly CUK is literally the only place we know of that has brits using the term. We aren't falling out with you or anything, but it is predominantly an Americanism. If it wasn't we'd all be using it to capture leads using adwords etc.

            Oh actually, there's a thought...

              Fixed that for you, dunce.
And I'm another who's come across the "dunning" word in a range of UK companies.
              How old are you?
              Hard Brexit now!

I'd never heard of "dunning" until I started my current gig and got thrust into the murky world of "credit management" - now I wake up screaming in my sleep about dunning.

Dunning (process) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The word stems from the 17th century verb dun, meaning to demand payment of a debt."

America didn't exist in the 17th century.
