    Your first computer program

The thread on computers in schools got me reminiscing...

What was the first computer program you wrote?

My first was at college (my school was a bit backwards).

We had to write a program that, given an employees pay packet, would work out the fewest notes and coins with which it could be paid, and including a £10 and a 50p. BASIC of course, on a Prime IIRC. (I'm not counting the 'address book' I wrote on the Dragon 32 which was a series of hardcoded if statements!)

Actually seems quite a good 'first programming' assignment, except no-one gets paid cash nowadays!

Don't believe you. I reckon you were grooming your bum fluff and trying and failing to score with birds.

Something in GWBASIC that played Christmas Carols. My dad helped me figure out how to make it play a note and then I programmed in the carols from a book of recorder (I think) music. He took it into work and put it on the PCs there (he was the IT director) and I was very proud - I was only 7 or 8.

My very first one was at GCSE - it read in a name and then checked the input against a hard coded value.
The first actually 'proper' program was my A Level project. It was a fantasy football league in DataEase.
