    Best car for £1K?

Nephew, aged 18, has just passed his test and is looking for his first car. He has £1K to spend.
Of course knowing his favourite uber-cool uncle sasguru is a whiz about cars , he's asked me for advice.
    What do the panel think?
    Hard Brexit now!

Why you asking us then eh?
Practically perfect in every way....there's a time and (more importantly) a place for malarkey.

        i.e. I'm not a whiz about cars.
Secondly I have no clue about the budget end of the market.
Didn't know you could even buy a proper car for 1K

that kind of driver the insurance quote is as big a deal as the purchase price.

and with that budget you have to go with what you can find in best condition.

given I'd be aiming for a low insurance group something like a last model fiat panda would be my target. some are listed just above that budget on autotrader, you would need to haggle the rest away or compromise somewhere.

we had such a panda and it was great so if you find one in good nick i would be happy to recommend.

                good luck

That's probably the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me.

                    you cannot really.

but whatever you go for make sure it was cheap and simple to start with so there will be less to go wrong.

just go to autotrader and look for stuff under a grand - clio 1.2??
