    Plastic Fantastic

    Bank notes, that is.

Coming to a cashmachine near you sometime in 2016.

BBC News - Plastic banknotes ready for 2016, says Bank of England

    I wonder if they're biodegradable.

Dropped my change on the floor yesterday, losing 50p in the process.

One of the 1p coins turned out to be a nice 1939 George VI farthing.

    Worth rather more than 1p.

Smaller, wipe-clean plastic banknotes could be introduced by the Bank of England from 2016, matching currency across the world.
    NLYUK will be happy!

When the BoE were replacing the pound note, my dad was part of the team which proposed replacing it with a plastic note rather than a coin.

So in a few years, we might implement the change which was originally proposed in the 1980s.

Trouble is contractors are so tight and so used to keeping their hands in their pockets they will probably melt

I like coins which are actually worth something, and the £1/2 coins always feel pleasantly substantial since they're a bit thicker. Although really, re-valuing £1 coins as £2 would probably be sensible.

Just on the sheer weight idea, I'd rather have a plastic note than the £1 and £2 coins.

Maybe they will re-think getting rid of the 1 penny piece soon after this.

How about a kind of e-cash system. Like a card you charge up with money. Isn't it about time somebody invented something like that?

                    Again.
