    Aaaarrrgh agencies

So all well and good the agency finds me a local gig.

Then they send me the contract to sign. The parties are named as the agency and an umbrella co. I have not worked for since April. I have also worked though my own limited co for this agency since then.

I email back and say no, wrong contract, I do not work for umbrella X anymore and give name of myco. Also have phone conversation with agent pointing this out.

I get back the same contract with the parties changed to Myco and the agency, but which describes Myco as an umbrella co.

    AAArrgh.

I email back and say wrong again, surely you have a contract for ltd co contractors?

    Finally get correct contract.

But need to send utility bill or council tax bill which must be six months or less old plus a copy of my car insurance indicating business cover. I last gave them these in June, and last worked for them in August.

Still they get me work, I suppose.

I've told my insurance company I only use my car for commuting for business purposes which is true, and they've never argued I need business cover, just personal and commuting

Why should agency demand what cover you've got as long as it's legal

Is your car a black BMW with heavily tinted windows by any chance?

Business cover often doesn't cost any extra.

WMS - I took out business cover on both mine and the wife's car and it didn't even make a difference to the quote/price

Business cover seems to be thrown in at no extra cost these days. The annoying bit is having to prove who I am every couple of months. Perhaps our resident agent could tell us if this really necessary?

Class 1 business cover is about £10 to £20.

                WTF of the day.
                +1

Wouldn't want to take a chance on interpretation of 'one permanent place of employment' clause that is usually the crux of the commuting part of SDP in insurance terms.....
Business Class 1 will cause neglible difference to most people's policies, and is - IMHO - necessary in our line of work.

At the very least, would you want to tell Hector you are not Permanent, and then the Ins Co that you are ?

I've tried online quotes with and without, didn't make any difference to the quote.

Yep. I try that with all the options. Some of them you think "Hmmm, might not need that" but then you find there is a minimal discount for not having it anyway.
