Germans want to power themselves TOTALLY with wind/solar ...

    ... by 2050.
Good achievable idea or the usual historical German hubris and over-confidence similar to the 1000 year Reich that lasted 6 years?
As a result Lord Haw-Haw pays Euro 310 a quarter leccy bill for his tiny one-bed flat.
    Hard Brexit now!

The rising surcharge placed on German household and SME bills to pay for renewable energy projects

How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

It's a very simple things to achieve as long as you don't mind power cuts.

As I said, Merkel should be re-elected, might well need a coalition with the tiny but often critical FDP, and that policy will probably either be dumped or so dramatically 'adapted' that there'll be nothing left of it. Good thing too.

Germans mind power cuts, especially CDU Germans with small engineering businesses.

The German bloke I talked to (Mittelstander with own family business) was livid.
He talked about German economic suicide etc.

Yep, precisely why it'll be dumped. The Germans won't destroy their own industry because it's what puts food on their plates. The risk is if SPD get into power, but I think Merkel's going to nail it and then her own party will force a change .

If they wanted wind power, they could hook themselves up to sas's rantings and be powered for ever.
