Gas supplier - To fix for 12 or 24 months?

Currently with npower on the following Tariff (fixed to Jan 2014):

standing charge 23.7p/day, Unit rate: 3.683p/KW

Going to switch to Pioneer, a new energy provider:

standing charge 48.89p/day, Unit rate: 3.063p/KW (12 months)
standing charge 51.33p/day, Unit rate: 3.069p/KW (24 months)

Gas bill currently around £140/month (aprox 120 units/day)

For 12 month tariff the same cost for 120 units would be £124.94
For 24 months tariff the same cost for 120 units would be £125.88

£30 cancellation charge for either of the tariffs though.....

Even if I drop my usage to 100 units a day I will still be making a £10/month saving so this is a no-brainer really.

Total savings would be up to £180/year, ironically the same amount Ed Miliband was promising to save consumers!

And what happens if you are in credit when they go belly up and they cannot pass on an accurate meter reading to the firm you are given in an emergency.

6 weeks with British Gas after the last small supplier went belly up cost me the equivalent of £600....

There is a reason why most people use the big 6, if you don't when they go belly up (and chances are they will if they offer cheap prices) you are shafted.

        TMI. Blimey.

By April next year all providers will be required to automatically offer the cheapest tariff to customers, so ask them then
Practically perfect in every way....there's a time and (more importantly) a place for malarkey.

Sure thing, let me ask my Butler to get it for me.

Interesting point you make. I switched my Elec to OVO and it is me who owes them money right now. Same for Gas as well, currently I owe them money so have had to put DD up on both.

I probably wasn't clear as it was two separate issues.

I lost £160 as I was in credit
Bg received an inaccurate figure which they "couldn't" change as my initial reading resulting in me using 4x more in the 6 weeks it took to escape then I have done at any other time

so that's not a £600 loss then is it!

                  check this:

                  Pioneer Energy

They look ok to me. It's not like the energy companies don't make enough profit as it is!
