You're in a shoe shop, second in the queue for the till. Behind the shop assistant on the till is a pair of shoes which you have seen and which you must have.

The female shopper in front of you has seen them also and is eyeing them with desire. Both of you have forgotten your purses.

It would be rude to push in front of the first woman if you had no money to pay for the shoes.

The shop assistant remains at the till waiting.

Your friend is trying on another pair of shoes at the back of the shop and sees your dilemma.

She prepares to throw her purse to you.

If she does so, you can catch the purse, then walk round the other shopper and buy the shoes!

At a pinch she could throw the purse ahead of the other shopper and "whilst it is in flight" you could nip around the other shopper, catch the purse and buy the shoes!

BUT, you must always remember that until the purse has "actually been thrown", it would be plain wrong for you to be in front of the other shopper and you would be OFFSIDE!

Wrong; the first offence was a forward pass, giving the put in at the scrum to the female shopper at the front of the queue. Arguably a penalty try and a yellow card, seeing as it could be seen as a deliberate offence to prevent a score.

Surely, the shopper 2nd inline is ahead of the purse carrier and blocking the defending shopper at the front of the queue. She must therefore play no part until the purse carrier passes her. That's the 1st offense. no? Since she moved ahead of the purse carrier without ever holding the purse.

                Wrong!

You are implementing a double linked list stack protocol that follows an event driven publish and subscribe paradigm. The requirements state that no object can pop from the stack unless an event is fired from another object that is deeper in the stack than the object that has subscribed to the event. Any object that does not follow this protocol must be marked for garbage collection.

Ah, but the second in line hasn't interfered in play according to your story, despite being tempted to do so; obstruction doesn't come into it if she's just standing there until she actively moves into the way of the player at the front, but she only does that after she's caught the purse from the forward pass. I still say the forward pass is the first offence. Sin bin and penalty try because the first shopper's scoring opportunity was impeded by a deliberate offence. Arguably she should be retreating to get behind the purse carrier, but that's a technicality compared to the forward pass; a player may be incapacitated and unable to get into an onside position.
