    Bad Morning

On Tuesday, I had a root canal filling in a chipped near-front tooth, on which a temporary crown was placed.

Yesterday it felt a bit sore, which was only to be expected. Then, once the dentist's was shut, my face started ballooning up, and the pain intensified rapidly. I switched from ibuprofen to ibuprofen + codeine, but even that couldn't control the pain. Had almost no real sleep last night, and on the couple of occasions I did manage to doze I woke up shivering as if developing a fever

By this morning I could just see the part of my face below my right eye without a mirror

Called the dentist first thing, and got a prescription for amoxicillin. Apparently, the root canal filling process can push bacteria that have been dormant within the microscopic channels of the tooth out into the jaw, where they proceed to make merry. If the amoxicillin doesn't start getting things under control by tomorrow I have to go back, to face what dreadful fate I do not know.

The codeine has finally started controlling the pain a little, so with a bit of luck it'll be sorted out soon.

In the meantime, I'm going back to bed. Aaagh

Both interesting and horrifying at the same time.

Nasty. I've had root canal treatment before and found that only ibuprofen + codeine worked. Hopefully it's working now because the antibiotics are starting to win the battle. Best of luck.

I'm sure the amoxicillin will help.

Funny how they never mention these slight side effects, innit?
        Indeed. Bastards.

A bit like the injection in the gum where they say 'this will sting a bit'. Grrrr...

Ave it out. A lot less grief in the long run.

Yes, it's just that the run to get to the long run can be a unbearably long.

Is your dentist called Vlad? Or Mengele?

I've had about 6 root canals over the past couple of years and lucky for me have not had any problems, needed no painkillers nor antibiotics. I'm about to have another 2, well actually 1 as my dentist said that in one of them the root has already been removed (which was news to me) and have to have an implant there. The other is just a straight root canal plus crown.

Get better soon Nick (as I did have similar when a couple of teeth were removed though)
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.
