Surely the second law of thermodynamics, is that you don't talk about thermodynamics

It is an awful long time since I did physics or thermodynamics but aren't the laws of thermodynamics concerned about closed or isolated systems?

So heat doesn't get "in" or "out".

Cold is lack of heat. If heat is going out then cold is going in.

Presumably if you open a window in totally still air then you get convection. Hot air flowing out of the top of the window will be matched by an equal volume flowing in at the bottom.

I suppose if asked what is light you'd tell me it's not dark.

The correct parallel is that dark is lack of light.
