Victims of crime, widows and students are among the millions of people being “ripped off” because the government is forcing them to use premium rate phone lines, MPs have warned.
More than 160 million calls from the public are being charged at a rate of up to 45p per minute at an estimated total cost of £56 million a year.

nice, maybe they should pass a law/provide guidance lo-call or similar only for mandatory government lines.

agree completely, but I think the Government departments should be officially forbidden to use them for necessary services.

It would soon stop if everyone calling these numbers used a stamp instead of a telephone. Departments would be so overwhelmed.

I've used that site for various companies for years, and most of the time you get reception or someone who can't forward your call on.

Bad companies know that their numbers are there so ensure you can't use them.

EDF were told for about 3 years in a row that they had the worse customer service of any utility company so they had to improve and one way of doing that is ensuring people could call them cheaply.
